Peppermint and Chamomile Infusion

"Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves — slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future." -Anonymous

Savoring a cup of tea daily is one of the most important things you can do for your mind; through sipping a taza (that's Spanish for a cup/mug!) of tea slowly, focusing all of your attention on the warmth each sip provides, you can reach a state of meditation and serenity where no worries or stresses exist in the world except your slowly disappearing cup of tea.

Tea growing, brewing, and drinking are arts and sciences and hopefully by continuing to read this blog, I can teach you readers a little bit about each of those arts through blogging about my daily cup of tea. Let's start!

I need to clean this infuser really badly, look how tea stained it is!

  • 1 teaspoon of peppermint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of chamomile flowers
  1. Boil water, I use a standard stainless steel stovetop kettle.
  1. Combine the peppermint and chamomile in an infuser.  My infuser of choice is a stainless steel basket style infuser.
  1. Pour the boiling water over the infuser and into the mug until the water level is just below the level of the drinking lip.
  1. Steep for 5-7 minutes
  1. Sweeten with a tiny bit of raw honey if desired.

Today's Brew: Peppermint and Chamomile

Technically, this brew isn't a traditional "tea" in the scientific sense.  Because no camellia sinensis, the plant that all traditional tea (black, white, green, oolong, pu-erh)  comes from is in this tea, this brew is considered a tisane.  More commonly known as an herbal infusion, tisanes are teas that are caffeine-free, and are made only from herbs, fruits, or spices.  Some commonly known tisanes are: peppermint, chamomile, passion fruit tea, rooibos (red tea from South Africa), and jasmine tea.

This particular mix feels so exotic.  The peppermint is invigorating and energizing, while the chamomile is calming and relaxing. I highly suggest this as part of your evening ritual before bed.

See you tomorrow for the next cup of tea.
